Just received an antenna for my Grundig Satellit 700 from Rainer. It arrived promptly and in perfect condition. Previously, I had contacted several shortwave suppliers and repair centers asking about this antenna. In each case I was told "Good luck finding one!". I noticed on Rainer's site that he had one. The rest is history!

After receiving the 3400, a new waiting period started for the Grundig Satellit 650. This time, I did not track the parcel on a daily basis as I was busy with the 3400. The satellit 650 arrived on Friday May 17th. At collection, I realized that the radio was not as heavier as the 3400. Once at home, I started opening the box, which took some time. The radio was packed in two boxes with shock absorbing materials between the boxes and then wrapped with a thin plastic. I was impatient to plug it and get the sound. However, I was a bit confused by its tuning. Is this really a short waves radio? The dial covers all the HF band and when the analog dial moves, the frequency read out does not change! Eventually, I got to understand how to use the dial. Tuning is done through the tuning knob that control the frequency read out. As the tuning knob rotates fasted, steps in frequency change increase, which is very convenient. The analog dial, controlled by a motor, indicates simultaneously the band. When I got to tune into a station, I found the warm sound of the Satellit 210,perhaps even a better sound. Excellent radio, in a mint condition. Many thanks again Rainer,
Regards, Aba

After getting the service pack and starting to use my Satellit 210. I spent some time checking Satellit radios on Rainer site and got an advice from him on what to get next. Then, I ordered a Satellit 3400 and a Satellit 650. The waiting time started then, as I was impatient to get them. After tracking the parcel on daily basis, the 3400 was received on Friday 10 May 2013. It looked like new and was in an excellent packing, although an invoice showed that it was bought in 1981! This radio radio is really big and heavy, even more heavier when fitted with its battery.(Dryfit 476) Very good sound and reception, although the sound differs from the Satellit 210. Many thanks for the quick shipment, for the high quality of the radio and for your support while enquiring about the shipment details and whereabout. But, this is not the end of the story ...

I have been listening to short waves since I was very young and in those days already, the Grundig Satellit was the best radio that one could expect to have. This was in the East part of Africa when many short waves bands were still crowded and the reception was good. FM stations where not available yet, not to say television. The quickest and most affordable way to be informed on what was going in the rest of the world was by listening to short waves. Of course there was a lot of propaganda on the air from some public broadcasters, especially due to the cold war but one learns to identify propaganda broadcasts and to understand the political systems that the radio programs where coming from. Several cultural programs could still be found on short waves. I have fond memories of "radiophonic" movies , as they used to be called in French. One thing that I liked about them was their stimulation of imagination, which had not limits. Then various games such as the famous "Jeux de mille Francs" on RFI, called then ORTF. On ORTF, time was announced every 30 minutes by a mechanical clock with pre-recorded voice. ORTF had also "Radioscopie", a one hour daily program where renowned writers, philosophers, musicians, actors, scientists such as Jean-Paul Sartre and Jacques Brel where interviewed. Late evenings, the Voice of America could be received well with very good musical programs and news. The impact to general knowledge was huge. The audio from a Grundig Satellit had something special, something warm that provided a better listening experience, as if the speaker was closer. Today I am leaving in South Africa and acquired recently a Satellit 210 which did not have the care that it deserved. I replaced several capacitors, cleaned all the contacts and replaced two transistors from the audio amplifer. However, I could not do much about the belt for the drum tuner. After considering to have one made locally, what was my suprise to know that I could get a new one from Rainer! The belt was ordered, received quickly and fitted. But this is not the end of it... Many thanks Raine

Great site. The US Army tried to train me in electronics, but I was never any good at it...eventually ended up in "personnel". Nevertheless, I've always had a fondness for "good" radios.
